We have built the Atiak sugar factory in Northern Uganda as an engine for development
to support the livelihoods of vulnerable populations, particularly women. Communities
own the land and harvest the sugarcane. We, in turn, provide seeds, oversee planting,
process the sugarcane, and purchase it from the farmers. The factory will support 14,000
farmers and factory workers once at full capacity.

Amina has provided employment directly and indirectly to over 6,000 people, mostly women, through her businesses. In all of her investments, she ensures women are given equal opportunities and that they play an integral role in management.
Sugar factory installed capacity is 1650 tons cane per day and expandable to 3,500 tons cane crushing per day
Factory capable of producing 60,000 Metric tons sugar annually and can produce sugar of 125,000 Metric tons after expansion
Currently produces 6MWh of electricity with room to grow to 12MWh at full capacity.
The program is located in a previously war-affected area of Atiak in Amuru and supports employment and community-owned land-use. We have built basic infrastructure and are helping transition communities from subsidence to commercial farming. We work closely with the United Nations, and the program support multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals.
We had a dream that one day these once battlefields would become green-fields for our people to harvest.

It's not just the factory or the sugar, but a big opportunity to change the mindset of our people.
I like the approach Atiak took, not to grab land but rather approach different community owners and ask them to be part of the project.
The investors decided that let, the owners of the land continue to own their land, but Atiak should do production for them.
This Kind of Entrepreneurship means, that some people here have got spectacles to see the opportunities which others do not see.
